For some adults, the idea of seeking counselling might be intimidating and even frightening. Being open, and vulnerable with a complete stranger might feel nerve-wrecking and uncomfortable at first. In our practice we strive to ensure that our clients feel safe and empowered to work towards their goals and achieve their optimal personal growth.
As we work together and embrace unique circumstances that led our clients to seek counselling, we jointly determine goals we want to focus on in our sessions. Using a calm and gentle approach we integrate a variety of effective therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, CBT, IFS and attachment theory.
How to get started: The first step is to schedule an initial consultation. During this consultation, the counsellor will gather information about your history, concerns, and goals. This will help the counsellor to better understand your hopes and to jointly develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique needs.
We Can Help With
Trauma / PTSD
Trauma therapy acknowledges how traumatic experiences can affect a person’s mental, behavioral, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. A primary goal is to re-establish a sense of safety for the individual, both internally and in their environment. We also find that EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective and widely recognized form of trauma therapy that we specialize in at Gentle Pathways.
Overwhelming Stress
We focus on helping individuals recognize and understand their personal stress triggers. Teaching practical techniques to manage stress effectively in daily life. Addressing negative thought processes that contribute to stress using cognitive-behavioral techniques. Introducing and practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness.
Depression / Anxiety
Therapy treatment aims to alleviate symptoms, improve coping skills, and enhance overall well-being for individuals experiencing anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, or both. We focus on helping individuals identify and change negative thought patterns contributing to their condition. Utilizing scientifically-supported methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), or other proven techniques. Tailoring therapy to the individual’s specific needs, symptoms, and circumstances.
Grief / Loss
Grief therapy for adults is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals cope with and process the complex emotions and challenges associated with significant loss. Recognizing that grief is a unique and personal experience, varying greatly among individuals. We try to focus on practical challenges that often accompany loss, such as changes in roles, responsibilities, and relationships.
Childhood Abuse
We look to address the long-lasting psychological, emotional, and behavioral impacts of childhood abuse or neglect experienced in adulthood. Our focus is on processing traumatic memories and experiences from childhood in a safe, supportive environment. We aim to reduce symptoms of trauma-related disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse that may have developed as a result of childhood abuse.
Relationship Issues
Identifying and addressing specific problems or patterns within the relationship that are causing distress or dissatisfaction with the goal of improving communication skills between parties, helping them express their needs, feelings, and concerns more effectively. We may focus on both current issues and underlying factors that may stem from individuals history or past experiences.
Coping Skills
We will start by evaluating the individual’s current coping mechanisms, strengths, and areas for improvement. Helping clients identify and modify negative thought patterns that may hinder effective coping. Guiding clients through structured approaches to identify problems, helping clients recognize, understand, and manage their emotions more effectively.
Work Stress / Burnout
Living with job burnout can feel incredibly overwhelming, and your experience is uniquely yours. You might notice your body trying to tell you something’s wrong – whether through headaches, stomach issues, or changes in your blood pressure. When you’re spending your days in a stressful or toxic workplace, managing burnout can feel like an uphill battle, and it’s completely understandable to struggle. Please know that what you’re going through is valid, and you’re not alone in this challenge.
